Based on the sci-fi buddy comedies, Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure and Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey, the Wild Stallyns close up their comic book series. Ted "Theodore" Logan (Keanu Reeves) and Bill S. Preston (Alex Winter) take their bow in BOOM! Studios' Bill & Ted's Most Triumphant Return #6.
As we previously mentioned, The Great Ones have to fulfill their destiny and deliver their next big hit. Worried about becoming one-hit wonders, the slacker duo needed inspiration before they could achieve rock and roll greatness. Time traveler Rufus (a wonderful nod to the late George Carlin) provided some wisdom and set them again on the right path. In the fifth installment, the time-traveling duo raced to fix the time stream, where a younger Chuck De Nomolos ruled over the entire world.
In the sixth installment, Bill and Ted have to come up with new music in a world where music doesn't exist. Because Chuck De Nomolos wiped out music history, no one knows the importance of playing an instrument. Staying faithful to the movies, the climax takes place in an epic-sized rock concert.
Writer Brian Lynch continues his portrayal of Rufus as the proud parent of two accomplished children. While it is sad that Carlin is no longer around, his character has developed into a wise mentor. While punching up the dialogue with laughs, Lynch also leaves readers with a wonderful message about forgiveness and second chances.
Artist Jerry Gaylord does a great job with the epic-sized concert. Because there is no budget, Gaylord aims for a grand finale, with giant robots and over-the-top stage performances. Though we don't hear the music, Gaylord makes up for it with his closeups of facial expressions.
A heartwarming read, Bill & Ted's Most Triumphant Return #6 delivers a satisfying conclusion that makes you wish this was third movie of the franchise.
