There are a few Republicans who, while opposing abortion, admit that there are some extenuating circumstances in which they could see themselves okay'ing the act. For example, rape and incest seem to be the two popular ones. But for presidential candidate Mike Huckabee? Well, not so much. It's being reported that the former Fox News host has supported denying an abortion to a 10-year-old rape victim who was raped by her stepfather.
Huckabee's support stems from a case in Paraguay, in which the 10-year-old was denied an abortion because that's how to law reads. Now 11 years old, the child gave birth last week.
On this topic, Huckabee said, "Let nobody be misled, a 10-year-old girl being raped is horrible, but does it solve a problem by taking the life of an innocent child?" He further commented that he once worked with a man who was "the result of a rape." The man went on to become a successful entrepreneur who aids those across the globe who are in need of water, something Huckabee claims never would have happened had he been aborted—as the mother initially tried but was denied by doctor after doctor.
"When I think about one horror, I also think about the possibilities that exist and I just don't want to think that somehow we discounted a human life," the former governor said.
After being challenged by CNN, Huckabee admitted that the situation is certainly not easy, and he has no intent to make light of what he calls a "terrible tragedy," but he believes there to be two victims in abortion: the child and the birth mother.
Folks, what are your thoughts on Mike Huckabee's comments regarding abortion?
