Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton recently had a closed-door meeting with some #BlackLivesMatter movement activists in New Hampshire. Now, footage from that meeting has been released by the group, which showed a small dialogue between Clinton and Julius Jones of Black Lives Matter.
Two videos were released via Good magazine that show the exchange between Clinton and Jones. While the first video is more-so a straight up question from Jones and response from Clinton, the second is more interesting.
The second contains not only a lot of finger-pointing (literally), but also a heck of a lot more emotion:
"The piece that's most important," Jones says to Clinton, "and I stand here, in your space, and I say this as respectfully as I can- but if you don't tell black people what we need to do, then we won't tell you all what you need to do."
He further comments that this has "always been a white problem of violence," and believe there's not much the Black Lives Matter movement can do to stop the violence that has been pushed upon them.
Clinton's response, in Jones's opinion, was a form of "victim blaming" – particularly when she said (sarcastically, we believe) that she'll go and talk "only to white people about how we are going to deal with very real problems."
Check out part two below:
In the end, Clinton notes that while people have the ability to change laws and resources, they do not have the ability to change every heart.
"You can keep the movement going, which you have started," says Clinton. "And through it you may actually change some hearts. But if that's all that happens, we'll be back here in ten years having the same conversation because we will not have all of the changes that you deserve to see happen in your lifetime, because of your willingness to get out there and talk about this."
Folks, do you agree?
