Now that Jon Stewart has left behind The Daily Show after the finale and passed the series off to comedian Trevor Noah it's safe to say that he has some spare time on his hands. What to do with those free hours? How about moderate one of the Democratic Presidential Debates? Well, that's what the world is hoping for, it seems.
CNN is reporting that over 90,000 people have signed a petition appearing on Change.org hoping that the newly unemployed comedian will moderate a presidential debate. The site notes that the petition reads:
"Over the last 16 years, Jon Stewart has played an influential and iconic role in covering U.S. politics and media. We believe he should continue that tradition as a moderator at one of the 2016 Presidential Debates."
Per the petition, Stewart is more than qualified to fulfill the position of moderator. "Mr. Stewart has interviewed 15 heads of state, 22 members of the United States Cabinet, 32 members of the United States Senate, 7 members of the United States House of Representatives, and scores of other political leaders from this country and around the world..."
The goal of the petition is to reach 150,000 signatures. Already it has received over 93,000.
Stewart's main quality that makes him the perfect choice for the position, says the leader of the petition, is trust. He claims that many in the country believe that Stewart's opinions in politics are that of many denizens' "worldview and values."
Meanwhile, Trevor Noah is gearing up for the premiere of The Daily Show with Trevor Noah this coming Sept. 28. Comedy Central recently dropped the first trailer for the series, which holds the tagline, "Same Chair. Different Ass."
