Super Bowl XLVII is going down in the record books for on of the best half-time performances, thanks to Beyonce's spectacle of a show. It is also in the record books as the longest Superbowl in history due to the 24 minute power outage at the Superdome. Just a few minutes into the third quarter, a power surge caused most of the lights in the Superdome to go out along with the air conditioning. At the the time, the Baltimore Ravens were beating the San Francisco 49ers 28 to 6. After the teams and the crowd of more than 71,000 football fans waiting around 34 minutes, the power came back on and the game resumed. Though the 49ers got very close to upsetting the Baltimore squad, the Ravens maintained their lead and became the Super Bowl champions. As far as the awkward power outage goes, authorities mounted an investigation and concluded that it was just an issue with the building.
Of course, the fact that the power outage occurred right after Beyonce's half time show has was reason enough for some to point the blame at the superstar. The electrifying performance lasted 15 minutes and included an impressive light show and even a choreographed hologram portion. Beyonce even brought out Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams for a brief Destiny's Child reunion of sorts. The crowd and the people watching at home were pleased to say the least. Some are even considering Beyonce's performance to be the best half-time show in Super Bowl history. This could be true, but what is very evident was the amount of electricity need to pull off this spectacle. Pointing the blame for the power outage at the pop stars performance is not a stretch at all. At the very least, the reactions to the black on Twitter were pretty entertaining to follow. Many Super Bowl viewers took to their accounts and tried their best to have the best "Beyonce/black out" jokes. One of the best came from the singer's husband and rapper, Jay Z. The hip hop mogul expressed his feelings on the situation with this brief tweet:
Lights out!!! Any questions??

The cause of the outage has been blamed on an issue with the Superdome and authorities have yet to mention Beyonce's performance when explaining the "issue." Though the black out was annoying and pretty awkward, it did not turn into a big deal. The people in the stands kept their spirits up and even started up the infamous "wave" to pass the time. More importantly, the fans had more time to refill on beverages! As a viewer watching from a friend's living room, I can say that the power outage was not a big deal at all. If anything, it gave the 49ers some time to regroup and it paid off. San Francisco came back in the third quarter from a devastating first-half performance to create an even more exciting Super Bowl. Unfortunately, the Ravens continued to perform well and took home the title of Super Bowl champions.
