First-Look Photo of Michael Fassbender in 'Assassin's Creed' Movie as Callum Lynch [SPOILERS]

The highly anticipated film adaptation of the popular Ubisoft video game, Assassin's Creed, has a release date set for 2016, but this week we can share with you a first-look photo of star Michael Fassbender in character as Callum Lynch, the movie's protagonist! Those out there that have played the video game might be questioning the character's name considering it isn't the game's antagonist, but we've learned that Callum is specific to the film version of Assassin's Creed, allowing for a new take on the franchise. Director Justin Kurzel is reteaming with Fassbender and his costar Marion Cotillard, who all worked together on Macbeth, to film the video game adaptation. According to Slash Film, filming is starting this week, which we can confirm thanks to this new image of Fassbendre in character!

"Lynch discovers he is a descendant of the secret Assassins society through unlocked genetic memories that allow him to relive the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. After gaining incredible knowledge and skills he's poised to take on the oppressive Knights Templar in the present day," the plot synopsis of the 2016 film reads, according to Yahoo! Movies.

Michael Kenneth Williams and Ariane Labed also star in this film, which is set to hit theaters on December 21, 2016. We'll see some action scenes taking place in Malta, London and Spain.
