It might be one of the most injury heavy reality shows on the air right now, but this might be the first time that a dancer has had to bow out of ABC's Dancing With the Stars before the season even begins. While contestants and pros have thrown in the towel midway through the season after suffering from injuries, Peta Murgatroyd has decided that her ankle pain is too severe to be a part of Season 21. The cast for the season has yet to officially be announced, but it is being reported that Murgatroyd's partner, singer Andy Grammer, will have to find a new partner for his run on the show.
According to Us Weekly, the decision to sit the new season out was a hard one for the DWTS pro to make, but after careful consideration and advice from her doctor, she unfortunately is going to be sitting this one out.
The star took to her Twitter account to directly address her fans and to break the devastating news to them.
"The past three days have been really tough to say the least," the star explained on Monday, Aug. 31. "I learned that my ankle injury is at a stage that needs surgery immediately. I'm so sorry but I have to step out of Season 21 of DWTS."
The star continued, saying that she was putting her health first so that it didn't hinder her getting back to the ballroom in the future.
"This is obviously one of the toughest decisions I've ever made and I seriously struggled with the idea of not being able to dance," the starlet explained. "But I know my health does come first, and the sooner I get this done, the sooner I can be back in the ballroom for all of you!"
It seems like the hardest thing for Peta about her decision will be watching her partner, Andy, dancing with someone else. She did give viewers a glimmer of hope, as she revealed that she is going to try to make it back to the show sometime this season for group performances.
"I hope to be back before the season ends, doing group numbers and of course cheering on Andy and my friends in [the] audience," Murgatroyd wrote. "It killed me to let someone else take care of Andy, who is such a genuine loving guy. But I know he will be in good hands. I will miss the show so much but just know that I will come better back than ever, and with a brand new ankle."
The official DWTS twitter posted a video of Andy officially announcing that he would joining the cast earlier this morning.
Honey, he's good! Please join us in welcoming @AndyGrammer to #dwts. https://t.co/qubm780HzN
