President Barack Obama recently unveiled footage from his recent trip to Alaska. The video was dropped via the White House's official Twitter account (yep, there is such a thing) along with the hashtag #ActOnClimate, which aims at urging people to, well, act on climate before it's too late to do anything.
In the below video, President Obama discusses the importance of acknowledging climate change, and explains that while he was thrilled to visit the beautiful state of Alaska, the main reason he was there was to "describe in real concrete terms what's happening with climate change."
The President goes on to state that what he's seeing is a result of the warming climate: the villages destroyed, the erosion, the soon-to-be relocation of towns, the rising sea levels, and much more.
Obama further notes that change will not occur unless we begin to act seriously on climate change.
There is such a thing as being too late to #ActOnClimate. Let's not let that happen → https://t.co/Xs7VFnbDeM https://t.co/aiYYi5N9qD

Naturally, the Twitter video warranted a number of responses from commenters – some good and some bad. Some praise the President for speaking out on climate change while others just tell the White House to check their facts again. Regardless, the President appears to be moving steadfastly to make certain we do something about our climate.

This is Kivalina Island, an Arctic town that's already receding into the ocean because of rising sea levels. For many Alaskans, it’s no longer a question of if they have to relocate – but when. There aren’t many other places in America that have to deal with questions of relocation right now. But there will be. What’s happening here is America’s wake-up call. -bo A photo posted by The White House (@whitehouse) on Sep 3, 2015 at 11:18am PDT

When you have warming taking place twice as fast here in Alaska as it is in the bottom 48 states, that is melting glaciers and blocks of ice that are raising sea levels and you start getting an accelerated pace of climate change overall. So we've got to do something about it. The good news is we can if we take some smart steps now." —President Obama on why we need to keep up the fight against climate change #ActOnClimate Click the link in our bio for more photos from the President's trip to Alaska.
