‘AHS: Hotel’ Premiere: Lady Gaga Asked by Ryan Murphy to Join Season 6

American Horror Story co-creator, Ryan Murphy, has offered Lady Gaga a role for Season 6 of the disturbing FX series. Murphy shared his admiration for Gaga in a tweet announcing the offer. AHS Season 5, titled Hotel, premiered last night and introduced viewers to its newest batch of characters played by returning stars like Angela Bassett, Kathy Bates and Sarah Paulson.  

The show, currently cable's highest-rated series, has drawn the attention of many celebrity guest stars including Max Greenfield, Matt Bomer and Eric Stonestreet.

The setting and plot of Season 6 have yet to be announced.

Season 5 takes place at a Los Angeles hotel linked to several gruesome murders. The five-star building hosts a unique cast of guests that include blood-sucking vampires, kinky ghosts and a cross-dresser named Liz Taylor. Lady Gaga portrays the hotel's owner, Elizabeth, who also goes by the name "The Countess." Her character suffers from an "ancient blood virus."

Murphy shared that this season will be more paranoid than other AHS storylines. "Every season has a different tone. I think last season was literally about being out in the open and being exposed and naked and nowhere to hide with your differences. This season is more paranoid. It's more claustrophobic. It's more about hiding things. Hotels by nature are a good place to store secrets," he said in an interview.

Gaga's well-calculated and dramatic introduction in the series gives a glimpse of what we can expect from her in the rest of the season.

"Some critics and some people have written about Gaga that her introduction is almost like she's in a silent movie. As you will see, that's the whole f-ing point," Murphy stated.

"We establish by episode two or three what year she was born and her story is very much wrapped into the silent film culture of early Los Angeles. So I think it was giving people a foreshadowing of what her character is about."

The AHS Hotel series airs Wednesdays on FX at 10 p.m. ET.
