Yeah Yeah Yeahs' first single "Sacrilege" off of the upcoming Mosquito is here and it is downright amazing. Though how could we expect anything else from one of the original pioneering New York indie rock acts? The song was produced by David Andrew Sitek and Nick Launey, has keyboardist Money Mark (longtime Beastie Boys collaborator), and a 24-piece choir. "Sacrilege" expands on singer Karen O's "psycho opera" Stop the Virgens, recalling drama and melodic grooves.
When the Yeah Yeah Yeahs (Karen O, Brian Chase and Nick Zinner) announced Mosquito, the frontwoman stated that it is meant to evoke emotions. She said, "We would love for this music to make our fans feel something, for it to stir some sh-- up inside of them, whatever that may be. So much feeling went into this record, it was the rope ladder thrown down into the ditch for us to climb up and dust ourselves off." Well their first single definitely gets the motor running, don't you think? Mosquito is set for an April 16 release. Please enjoy the first single, "Sacrilege."
According to a recent article by SPIN:
[Mosquito] features production by TV on the Radio's Dave Sitek (who has done work on YYYs' 2002Machine EP, 2003's Fever to Tell, 2006's Show Your Bones, and '09's It's Blitz!), Nick Launay (who also worked on It's Blitz! and the band's stellar 2007 Is Is EP along with recent albums by Grinderman and the Cribs), and LCD Soundsystem's James Murphy (you've probably heard of him before). Murphy worked on just one Mosquito track.
Also, there is a guest performance by Kool Keith in his "Dr. Octagon persona, so that is definitely something to look forward to. Below is the track listing for Mosuito and some live video of two other tracks off of the album.
