Based on the best-selling novel by author Stephen King, Hulu has set the 2016 premiere date for 11.22.63. With the sci-fi drama executive produced by J.J. Abrams (Star Wars; The Force Awakens), James Franco leads the ensemble cast as they try prevent an assassination and change history.
According to TV Line, the plot synopsis follows high school history teacher Jake Epping (Franco) finds himself traveling back in time. In a race against the clock, Epping attempts to prevent the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. But will his mission be threatened by Lee Harvey Oswald? The past itself doesn't want to be changed as Jake tries to alter history forever.
The cast also includes Chris Cooper, Josh Duhamel, T.R. Knight, Cherry Jones, Sarah Gadon, Lucy Fry, George MacKay and Daniel Webber.
Abrams, King, Bridget Carpenter and Bryan Burk will serve as executive producers. Filmmaker Kevin Macdonald (Last King Of Scotland) will sit in the director's chair and executive produce the first two hours of the nine-part series.
As Variety reports, Hulu will release episodes on a weekly basis, as it has done previously for its other original series. This is actually different from Netflix, which releases the entire season of a show, such as Daredevil and Sense8, all at once.
The sci-fi drama will be available exclusively to Hulu subscribers on either the $7.99 monthly plan with ads, or the $11.99 commercial-free option.
Hulu had previously styled the name of their drama as 11/22/63, the same as King's book, but now, the title is officially referred to it as 11.22.63.
