In a new interview following the horrific attacks on Paris a couple of weeks ago, two members of Eagles of Death Metal are detailing the happenings at the Bataclan concert hall. Alongside Joshua Homme, singer Jesse Hughes tells VICE that a child's life was saved by hiding under his leather jacket.

The full interview from VICE hasn't been released yet – the piece will be available next week in its entirety – but the publication has dropped a 55-second clip in which Hughes discusses what went down as the band was playing.

For those unaware, the Eagles of Death Metal were performing at the Bataclan concert hall two Fridays ago (Nov. 13). During their show, gunfire broke out, killing dozens of people – reportedly at the hands of ISIS.

The attack was one in a string of assaults on the city of Paris from the Islamic State group.

"Several people hid in our dressing room," Hughes says, further explaining that the killers then made their way into the band's room and killed nearly everyone with the exception of one child who was hiding under the singer's leather jacket.

"People were playing dead, and they were so scared. A great reason why so many were killed is because so many people wouldn't leave their friends," he added, on the brink of tears.

The interview with VICE's Shane Smith will be the first one the band has given since the terrorist group took action against Paris. It will be availabe next week.

After the band was home, they released a statement regarding the attack via social media:

While the band is now home safe, we are horrified and still trying to come to terms with what happened in France. Our thoughts and hearts are first and foremost with our brother Nick Alexander, our record company comrades Thomas Ayad, Marie Mosser, and Manu Perez, and all the friends and fans whose lives were taken in Paris, as well as their friends, families, and loved ones. Although bonded in grief with the victims, the fans, the families, the citizens of Paris, and all those affected by terrorism, we are proud to stand together, with our new family, now united by a common goal of love and compassion. We would like to thank the French police, the FBI, the U.S. and French State Departments, and especially all those at ground zero with us who helped each other as best they could during this unimaginable ordeal, proving once again that love overshadows evil. All EODM shows are on hold until further notice. Vive la musique, vive la liberté, vive la France, and vive EODM.
