Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump recently claimed that following the attacks on 9/11, he saw a large number of people in Jersey City, New Jersey, "cheering" as the towers went down. Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop (D) is now speaking out against Trump, claiming that his presidential ability is undoubtedly questionable.
"I watched in Jersey City, New Jersey, where thousands of thousands of people were cheering as that building was coming down," Trump said.
After the billionaire's comments got to the press, Fulop was quick to speak against Trump's memory of 9/11. "Either he's willfully making up lies or he has memories issues. If you have either one of those, you have to question his ability to be president," he said.
Fulop also stated, "Trump is plain wrong, and he is shamefully politicizing an emotionally charged issue. No one in Jersey City cheered on September 11th."
ABC's George Stephanopoulos pressed Trump on the matter, telling him that even police have strongly suggested that what he said was inaccurate, further noting that those rumors have been circulating online for quite some time.
Despite the facts, Trump remains strong in his belief that he saw people cheering as the towers came down on Sept. 11.
And while Mayor Fulop was quick to defend his city, it seems as if New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie was a little more apprehensive. He claimed, "I do not remember that, and so it's not something that was part of my recollection." The GOP hopeful then added, "I think if it had happened, I would remember it, but, you know, there could be things I forget, too."
Which seems like an odd thing to add.
Oh, and hey, if you're looking for a new apartment, why not check out Doanld Trump's building on Morgan Street...in Jersey City.
