Jennifer Lawrence to Direct First Feature Film About Government Experiments

Jennifer Lawrence is well on her way to being a Hollywood triple threat. Lawrence, who was recently named Entertainment Weekly's Entertainer of the Year, says she'll be adding the title of director to her resume. She is currently starring in several films and is also working on a screenplay with Amy Schumer.

Lawrence told Entertainment Weekly, "I've signed on to direct something called Project Delirium—it's based on this article about mental warfare in the '60s, like an acid experiment gone terribly wrong."

In the interview, Lawrence explains that she's always been interested in directing, but she felt that she needed to work her way up to that goal. Now, she says she "feels ready."

IndieWire is reporting that the article Lawrence probably refers to is a 2012 piece from The New Yorker titled "Operation Delirium" by Raffi Khatchadourian. The article details experiments used by the government on 5,000 U.S. soldiers.

This dark subject material is a far cry from the comedy the actress has in the works with squad member and fellow funny gal, Amy Schumer. In August, Lawrence said her and Schumer will play sisters, naturally, and that they were almost done writing. Of the experience, she said:

Amy and I were creatively made for each other. We have different flavors. It's been the most fun experience of my life. We start the day off on the phone, laughing. And then we send each other pages. And we crack up. I'm flying out tomorrow to see her in Chicago. We'll write a little bit with her sister, Kim, who worked with Amy when she was writing Trainwreck.

The actress will next be seen in the buzzy film Joy, directed by Oscar magnet David O. Russell. Between her acting projects, writing and directing, 2016 is shaping up to be another big year for Lawrence.
