Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan is soon going to wow the audience in Dilwale on December 18. On the same date, Ranveer Singh is going to amaze the critics by starring in period drama Bajirao Mastani. These two are among the most anticipated Bolllywood films of 2015 and are going to clash at the box office.
After almost a gap of 5 years, Khan will be seen in Rohit Shetty's romantic comedy film Dilwale with Kajol Devgan. The first released song, "Gerua" has already crossed 10 million views on YouTube and fans are eagerly waiting for the film because of the action, romance and drama it promises. Khan earlier worked with Shetty in 2013 romantic action film, Chennai Express and according to IBN Live, the film made history in Indian Cinema by becoming the biggest grosser of all time after earning 60 million dollars worldwide.
According to Bollywood Life, Dilwale is made against a budget of 14 million dollars. Mstarz earlier reported that Sony MSM has acquired the satellite rights of Dilwale for 9 million dollars which suggests that the movie has already recovered more than half of the production cost.
In another report from Bollywood Life, when one reporter asked Khan on his views on the box office clash, the 50-year-old actor said that he finds it very unfortunate that the two major films are going to be releasing on the same date.
"Of course, the audience will get divided. I believe not just in my film, but in films and I respect each and every film. I think it is kind of unfortunate, but you know we make around 200 films a year and there are just 52 to 56 Fridays, so films will come together on the same day, but I think there is enough business to be done on that weekend for two films to come out and do well. So, hopefully, both the films will do well," Khan said.
On the other hand, Singh earlier collaborated with filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali for the film adaptation of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. Film titled, Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela grossed 30 million dollars and was also critically acclaimed film. Danny Bowes, a New York based critic and journalist whose reviews are published on Rogerebert.com gave the movie 3 out of 4 stars. The duo of Bansali and Singh proved quite successful in the past and with Bajirao Mastani, the team is hoping to recreate the magic once again.
This won't be the first time Khan and Bhansali have clashed at the box-office. In 2007, Khan's megastarer film, Om Shanti Om was released on the same date as Bhansali's Saawariya, which was a cinematic adaptation of Fyodor Dostoevsky's short story White Nights. According to Bollywood.com, Om Shanti Om, which was the debut film of Deepika Padukone earned 37 million dollars at the box office and Saawariya, which was the debut film of Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor failed to amaze the audience and only earned 5 million dollars.
Both Dilwale and Bajirao Mastani has an amazing cast and both the directors has their own targeted audience. Who will win the box-office clash is still a mystery but one thing is clear, both of the film are surely going to win some hearts.
