Earlier in Season 4 of Arrow, Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) met John Constantine (Matt Ryan) on the island of Lian Yu, and John provided Ollie with some mystical tattoos. But will the ink be able to help him fight Damien Darhk? We've got spoilers ahead, so read on to find out what's coming up.
In the flashbacks, Constantine gave the tattoos to Oliver in order to protect him against Reiter (Jimmy Akingbola), who is running a military operation on the island to harvest plants that are a hybrid of cocaine and heroin. But Constantine warned Oliver that Reiter actually has more sinister plans and abilities, as evidenced by the fact that John uncovered a magical artifact on the island for which Reiter was looking.
We haven't heard much about the tattoos since then, but the "Spoiler Room" column at Entertainment Weekly has more.
"Constantine's parting gift to Oliver - a magical tattoo? - will come back to play soon. 'Basically Constantine says to him that this is insurance against Reiter, and we're going to deliver on that promise entirely,' EP Wendy Mericle says. 'It's going to help Oliver when he's in a very dark place and time when he has no other way out. It's going to be the thing that pulls him out of a very dark spot and literally saves him.' But whether he'll be able to use it on Damien Darhk is another story. 'The mysticism that Reiter is practicing may or may not sync up with what Damien Darhk is doing,' Mericle adds."
It would make sense for the flashbacks to align with the present day, as that is the way things go on Arrow. It wouldn't be surprising at all if Damien Darhk is somehow behind the operation that Reiter is running on the island.
Regardless, it's clear that Darhk is exponentially more powerful than Reiter, as even Constantine warned Oliver in the present day to stay as far away from Darhk as possible. So will the tattoos help Ollie fight Darhk? We'll have to wait and see.
