The death of Han Solo may have been one of the most depressing moments in 2015, but fans are already looking forward to seeing who will play the young captain of the Millennium Falcon in his own standalone movie. Although it is highly unlikely that Harrison Ford will be coming back to reprise his famous role, young actors like Ansel Elgort from The Fault in our Stars and Fantastic Four's Miles Teller are already being considered for the role of young Han.
According to Variety, Disney and Lucasfilm have already tested thousands of actors before narrowing down their list to a mere handful, which also includes Now You See Me star Dave Franco, Logan Lerman from The Perks of Being a Wallflower and Transformers: Age of Extinction's Jack Reynor. Melissa Benoist's husband and Supergirl co-star Blake Jenner is also part of the list.
The new Han could already be one of the listed actors, as Variety reports that directors Chris Miller and Phil Lord may be coming up with a decision within the next two weeks.
But it looks like the Han Solo standalone film will not be the first movie that will feature the younger incarnation of the character. There are speculations that the new Han will have a cameo role in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, although this wouldn't be consistent with the film's timeline. (Rogue One takes place just before the events in A New Hope).
Although the chosen actor will have a lot to look forward to when he lands the coveted role, he might not be getting any support from the original Solo. Ford has previously confirmed that he is not involved with the Han Solo standalone film and refused to offer any advice for the next star who will play his infamous character.
The Han Solo standalone film is scheduled for release on May 25, 2018.
