Star Trek, which stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, and Zoe Saldana, has gained a wobbly reputation over the years, but it seems as though the new Star Trek Beyond trailer is about to change all of that. Check out five great reasons to watch the film.
The first film, Star Trek, released in 2009, was a total hit, grossing $4 million on its opening day in the United States. The first movie from the reboot was well received by film critics, with Metacritic even giving the film an 83 percent.
However, many were disappointed when Star Trek Into Darkness came out. The sequel garnered a score of 72 percent, also from Metacritic. It seems as though the filmmakers are trying to make up for the bad reviews with the upcoming sequel.
Now that the Star Trek Beyond trailer has just arrived, it looks like it's going to be one hell of a movie you should not miss for these very reasons:
1. The beloved cast reprise their roles
There's no denying that the original cast for the reboot series were one of the best ensembles we've seen. With the chemistry, it's no surprise that they're reprising their roles.
We've got Chris Pine as James T. Kirk, Zachary Quinto as Commander Spock, Zoe Saldana as Uhura, Karl Urban as Leonard McCoy, Simon Pegg as Scotty, John Cho as Hikaru Sulu, and Anton Yelchin as Pavel Chekov.
2. The soundtrack looks promising
At the beginning of the trailer, Scotty plays some music as the crew cruises through space. Rolling Stone explains: "Scotty (Simon Pegg) kicks things off by blasting the Beastie Boys' Sabotage through the speakers of the USS Enterprise."
With the old school tunes, it's possible that Star Trek Beyond is whipping up a soundtracks as awesome as Guardians of the Galaxy's accompanying music.
3. Meet the villain, played by Idris Elba
The trailer also shows off some new characters to join the cast. Elba, although unrecognizable in the trailer due to alien makeup, plays the villain.
Sofia Boutella is also introduced as a new character, although her name is unknown. According to The Guardian, the Kingsman: The Secret Service actress (she played the girl who could slice things with her feet) is deemed to be an important character in the film.
4. There's a lot of suspense (and action):
There are some strange new worlds coming with enemy vessels chasing and smashing into the Starfleet's ship. Not only that, but it seems as though the USS Enterprise finally meets its demise.
5. It's directed by Justin Lin from Fast & Furious (3, 4, 5 and 6)
Probably dedicating his time to Star Wars: The Force Awakens, J.J. Abrams settled for the role of producer. Lin, known for directing the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth Fast & Furious films, surely can handle the directing responsibilities for the third Star Trek installment.
