To commemorate three decades of excellence, the record label commissioned previous and current artists for the Def Jam Recording's 30th Anniversary Concert, which was held last night (October 16) at the Brooklyn Barclays Center. Today is the one-year anniversary of the death of Adam "MCA" Yauch of the Beastie Boys (and unofficially MCA Day in Brooklyn). Yesterday, in the Brooklyn Heights neighborhood where Yauch grew up, the influential MC and activist had a park named for him. Palmetto Park, the park where a young Yauch learned to ride his bike, was renamed in his honor. The ceremony included speeches from fellow Beastie Ad-Rock, as well as Yauch's mother and Borough President Marky Markowitz. Read More »
Adam Yauch, the Beastie Boy who was best known by his stage name of MCA, will have a Brooklyn playground dedicated to his memory. The Palmetto Playground in Brooklyn Heights will be renamed to honor the rapper who died of cancer last year at the age of 47. Read More »
