Billy Corgan of The Smashing Pumpkins is a first-time dad. The singer welcomed son August Juppiter with girlfriend Chloe Mendel, the artist daughter of fashion designers Gilles Mendel and Jenny Mui.
The 48-year-old singer and songwriter and 22-year-old Mendel welcomed their baby boy on November 16, keeping the baby news on the down-low.
They named their son Augustus Juppiter Corgan, the singer's rep confirmed to People.
Corgan is best known for being the frontman of the alternative rock band The Smashing Pumpkins, known for their songs such as "Today" and "Tonight, Tonight."
There are no other details on the child's birth, but August was believed to have been born in Chicago, where the couple resides. The couple run the tea shop, Madame Zuzu's, according to Wonderwall.
Corgan was previously married to artist Chris Fabian in 1993, getting married in an intimate ceremony at his home in Wrigleyville. Corgan and Fabian separated late 1995, divorcing in 1997.
Corgan refused to discuss the split in interviews, stating, "There is not and will not be any public record on my marriage – that's one thing I have to draw lines around."
The Smashing Pumpkins rocker recently shared a tribute to his late friend, Stone Temple Pilots singer Scott Weiland, who died earlier this month of a drug overdose at age 48.
Corgan wrote on his band’s website on Friday, December 4, “We mourn all that might have been. I find myself reflecting on what I do have: in scarce moments when Scott and I spoke as contemporaries and got to know each other as people… I’d try to make him giggle when I saw that the manic whirl of the dumb parties we were at might be causing undue stress. May I now say he is undoubtedly in the arms of grace and eternal love."
