There's an unspoken, yet commonly known rule of thumb: if you lose a tooth, you put it in your sock until you find someone who knows what to do with it. Atlanta Hawks guard, Dennis Schroder, can attest to this. In a recent game against the Portland Trail Blazers, Schroder found himself on the receiving end of a Meyers Leonard knee to the face. The result: he can now whistle better than the average person.
In this situation, many people would panic--scream bloody murder, text their dentist incoherent ramblings, call their mom in search of comfort and homemade soup, or maybe even write the tooth fairy a desperate letter. However, Schroder did none of this. He maintained his poise, simply picking up the fallen tooth to stash it away into his sock for safe keeping.
"I just wanted to play," Schroder said, via the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "I wanted to be on the court. I was like 'Oh (shoot).' I put it in (my sock) and kept playing."
Some people may be wonder why on earth someone would sacrifice a key member of their grill to dribble and shoot a ball around for a few minutes? Well, to put it simply, he was having a good game (if you've ever played a pick-up game of H-O-R-S-E and felt as though the rim was bigger than the Pacific ocean, you know this feeling).
The 22-year-old was in the midst of a night that saw him go 7-for-10 from the field, which was good enough for 18 points on the night. The performance was instrumental in the Hawks' 106-97 win, giving the team their fourth straight victory. With it, their record improves to 18-12 on the season, putting them in third place in the Eastern Conference.
And while Schroder did stay in the game, he would go on to say that he would be visiting his dentist "ASAP." There was no word on whether or not the veneer would be replaced, or simply washed off.
