Hockey players hold teeth in about the same regard as bubble wrap. Obviously, it's great to have them--it can even be fun. But once they're gone, it's not really that big of a deal. Take NHL legend Jaromir Jagr, for example, who, on Tuesday, exchanged a few unpleasant words with an opponent's high stick--an act that left the 43-year-old without a few chompers. You know what he did? He finished the game, like a hockey player.
After the game, the Florida Panthers veteran took to his Twitter to show off that new smile of his. He captioned the post: "Dear Santa, can I get a new teeth for Christmas :) it's going to be tough to eat-good -at least I don't get fat :)))."
Jagr was struck by Ottawa Senators forward Alex Chiasson in the first period. If this were any other sport, that could have ruffled some feathers. However, the 43-year-old saw no malice in it. In fact, he actually made light of the situation.
"I lost some teeth, but I increased my speed as you see it on the breakaway," Jagr joked, via NHL.com. "I don't want to hear anything about I'm slow because I got on a breakaway."
Chiasson was a teammate of Jagr's with the Dallas Stars' organization during the 2012-13 season. After being struck in the mouth, Jagr gave Chiasson a friendly pat on the shoulder as he skated off the ice to receive treatment (since this is hockey, he almost surely received a popsicle and some Aspirin to quell the pain).
"Tough play," Chiasson said, via NHL.com. "You never want to see that. I obviously didn't mean to hit him. He's a legend in this league, he's been around so long."
Ultimately, though, it was Jagr and company who had the final laugh, as the Panthers were able to beat the Senators on the night, 2-1. Aside from losing a few teeth, Jagr was able to register an assist.
All in all, a pretty standard Tuesday.
