Supernatural has done almost every type of episode imaginable in its more than 200 episodes, and yet the show keeps finding new ideas and new plots to conceive in Season 11. The latest bit of spoilers reveals that Sam and Dean Winchester will take on the world of professional wrestling!
TVLine exclusively reported that the upcoming 15th episode of this season will throw Sam and Dean (Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles) into the squared circle, in a manner of speaking. As the site reports, the episode "revolves around a wrestling tour rocked by some seriously scary mayhem."
In the course of the hour, the brothers will meet some wildly colorful wrestling characters, including "Gunnar Lawless," a legend in the ring who is wrestling with many regrets, "Shawn Harley," a rising rookie with a short fuse, and "Rio," a manager who has seen many of her wrestlers die before their times.
TVLine notes the episode will begin production in early January.
As a fan of both Supernatural and professional wrestling, this is exciting news because this episode could be on par with other wacky installments of the past, such as "Changing Channels" and "The French Mistake." Or, it could go the way of some of the worse episodes, such as "Plucky Pennywhistle's Magical Menagerie" and "The Purge."
Interestingly, Supernatural has made pro wrestling references in the past. Shortly after Dean received the Mark of Cain in the back half of Season 9, Sam asked him what it was. Dean said it was from Cain, and Sam replied "The wrestler?"
Unfortunately, it doesn't sound like we'll be seeing the WWE's Kane chokeslamming either of the Winchester brothers in this upcoming episode. But maybe the Undertaker feels like making a surprise appearance? Hey, a guy can dream, can't he?
