Captain America: Civil War will be here before you know it, but a new rumor has surfaced about a major character death at the end of the movie. There are potentially huge spoilers ahead for not just the film, but the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe, so read on at your own risk.
Let us stress one more time that what follows is just a rumor and nothing has been confirmed.
Last chance to bail before the spoilers come...
That Hashtag Show has posted a two-minute video (which you can view below) with some spoilers about the beginning and end of the film. As has been widely reported for quite some time, Civil War opens with the funeral of Agent Peggy Carter. This is hardly a shock considering her age and the state in which we saw the character in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
But the real news in the video is that the third solo Cap movie will end with a funeral for Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) himself. That Hashtag Show claims that Captain America makes a deal with the government in which he agrees to turn himself over to the authorities in order to keep his friends and allies free. But as it happens in the epilogue of the Civil War comic series, the star-spangled superhero is killed.
This might be a plot development some fans had predicted given that it happens in the pages of the comic book, but there's more to the story that makes this even more intriguing. That Hashtag Show reports that Marvel has shot three different versions of one scene in which Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), The Falcon (Anthony Mackie), and Sharon Carter (Emily VanCamp) vow to take up Cap's mantle and continue his mission.
The movie would of course only use one of these scenes, and Marvel likely filmed the three endings in order to prevent the true scene from leaking. If the film follows the movie, then Bucky is the leading candidate, but the other two are certainly viable contenders.
