Lollapalooza 2013 Lineup: Headliners Include Mumford & Sons, Phoenix, The Killers, Vampire Weekend: Teasers for August Festival, Full Lineup Out Next Month

Lollapalooza 2013 is quickly approaching, and although the official lineup will not be released for the summer festival until next month, The Chicago Tribune recently confirmed a few headliners as a teaser to leave us wanting more.

Mumford & Sons, Phoenix, Vampire Weekend and the Killers are among the announced and confirmed headliners for Lollapalooza 2013 in Grant Park on Aug. 2-4.

Also confirmed by multiple industry sources are the National and the Postal Service. Lollapalooza promoters C3 Presents said it would officially announce the lineup next month. "Early bird" tickets for the festival go on sale next Tuesday.

Lollapalooza, which relaunched in 2005 as a destination festival in Chicago according to the Tribune, has become increasingly successful, consistently selling out 270,000 tickets over three days in recent years. The festival is expected to have a similar format to last year, with more than 100 artists arrayed on eight stages over three days.

This will be the event's ninth year at Grant Park, according to Spin, located along the Lake Michigan shoreline in the heart of the city. Last year's big names included Red Hot Chili Peppers, Black Sabbath, the Black Keys, Jack White, Avicii, Justice, Florence + the Machine, Bassnectar, the Shins, Passion Pit and At the Drive-In, who were enjoying their generally successful reunion run.

As Huffington Post reports, Lollapalooza officials announced special discount passes will soon hit the web on Tuesday, the same day that reports of the new lineup headliners confirmations surfaced.

Via an e-mail blast to subscribers, officials said the $200 Early Bird Passes will go on sale at 10 a.m. Central on Tues., March 26, while deeply discounted $75 "souvenir" passes will be available in a secret sale "some time this week."

Regular three-day passes for the fest are $235 and will go on sale once the Early Bird passes are exhausted.

No details were provided on the secret sale, but as in years past, following the fest's social media accounts and signing up for the e-mail alerts is apparently the way to get the scoop, says Huffington.

Conceived and created in 1991 by Jane's Addiction singer Perry Farrell as a farewell tour for his band, Lollapalooza ran annually until 1997, and was revived in 2003. From its inception through 1997, and its revival in 2003, the festival toured North America. In 2004, the festival organizers decided to expand the dates to two days per city, however poor ticket sales forced the 2004 tour to be cancelled. In 2005, Farrell and the William Morris Agency partnered up with Austin, Texas-based company Capital Sports Entertainment (now C3 Presents) and retooled it into its current format as a weekend destination festival.

With British folk-rockers & Grammy winners Mumford & Sons, French popsters Phoenix, New York indie rockers Vampire Weekend, alternative pop singers The Killers' and the recently reunited Postal Service already on board, this years Lollapalooza is one of this summers music festivals that cannot be missed!
