While being interviewed on "The Jonathan Ross Show," Ian McKellan broke the news that he will be officiating the wedding ceremony of his X-Men co-star Patrick Stewart to jazz performer Sunny Ozell. In the super hero films, McKellan and Stewart play archrivals with a friendly past. In real life they are close friends. Close enough for Patrick wanting Ian in his wedding, right up there with him. The 73-year-old Hobbit star does admit to Ross that he is not exactly sure how he is qualified, though.
McKellan said, "I'm going to marry Patrick. I am going to officiate at his wedding.
"In Massachusetts, in the middle of America somewhere, you get a friend along, and I read out the words, and Sunny and Patrick will then be married."
He also added: "I've done it once before with two guys having a civil partnership. I was crying my eyes out. I wore a white gown which I bought in India."
This time though, Ian understands that white is not an appropriate color to wear, saying, "You mustn't upstage the bride."
The 72-year-old Stewart and his 35-year-old fiancé, Ozell, have been dating since 2009.

Ian and Patrick will be reprising their respective roles of Magneto and Professor X in the upcoming Bryan Singer directed film X-Men: Days of Future Past. This will be a sequel to the X-Men: First Class film, which starred James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender as the younger versions of Professor X and Magneto respectively. This new project involves flashbacks and time travelling as actions in the past alter outcomes in the future.
In January, it was announced that Ian and Patrick would co-star in productions of "Waiting for Godot" and "No Man's Land" on Broadway this upcoming fall.
