Richard Armitage of The Hobbit movie franchise fame has officially been cast in season 3 of NBC's bloody crime thriller Hannibal as Francis Dolarhyde, A.K.A. the Tooth Fairy killer. Portrayed in the 2002 movie Red Dragon by Ralph Fiennes and the 1986 film Manhunter by Tom Noonan, Armitage is taking on one of the biggest roles in the Thomas Harris literary world. The series' creator, Bryan Fuller, has been teasing Dolarhyde's appearance on the show since his murders were mentioned in the pilot episode, so it looks like we'll be getting an "in person" look at the character with Armitage! Michael Pitt will not return to the third season of NBC's crime thriller Hannibal as crazed and mutilated millionaire Mason Verger. The actor, who is most known for his work on HBO's Boardwalk Empire, has already been replaced by Joe Anderson for the new season 2 episodes that will premiere in 2015.
