Last November, former Two and a Half Men star Charlie Sheen revealed to the world, after a lot of gossip, that he was HIV positive, prompting serious debate on the subject of the virus. Now, months later, the Golden Globe winner appeared on The Dr. Oz Show to discuss his health, revealing he might actually have bipolar disorder.
According to People, Martin Sheen's son has been on Mehmet Oz's program three times over the past month, as he opens up further about his health struggles as well as his history with addiction. During the latest of these interviews, the actor recounted that several people have already diagnosed him with this mental illness, and he admits that it's a possibility.
"I've been described or 'diagnosed' by enough people, and I guess at some point you have to take a look at it if it keeps walking like a duck, you know? And I'm not opposed to investigating that aspect of myself," Sheen pondered on the show. "It's dicey for me because I don't look at it as mania, I just look at it as existing and exploring a very interesting and full world and universe."
TV Guide reports that the actor explained that the better part of his "manic behavior" stems from his time using drugs and other substances as well as "deep partying," saying that he hasn't found himself to have that sort of behavior when he's sober.
During the show, Dr. Oz also brought in psychiatrist Dr. Shahla Modir, an expert on treating patients with addictions, to ask the Platoon actor about some of his possible symptoms. During the segment, Sheen admitted he's experienced several of the symptoms associated with this condition, including extreme mood swings where he gets restless and irritable, sleeps less, racing thoughts around making big plans and increased sex drive.
