Kate Winslet is finally breaking her silence on the infamous Titanic ending. The actress admitted on Jimmy Kimmel Live! that she agrees with the many fans who believe that Leonardo DiCaprio's Jack could have survived in the film by sharing the door Rose floated on.
In the film, Rose chooses not to get on a life raft with the other women and children and instead stays with her love, Jack. When the Titanic sinks, all they can find to climb on to is a piece of a wooden door. The piece of door is noticeably rather large, but when Jack tries to get on the door with her, it starts to sink. He ultimately ends up dying right beside Rose, insuring that her makeshift rafts stays afloat so she can live.
Many fans, including host Jimmy Kimmel, feel that Jack could have survived. When Winslet appeared on his show earlier this week, he quipped, "There was plenty of room on the raft!" Winslet replied, "I know, I know."
She continued, "I agree. I think he actually could have fitted on that bit of door."
Fans have hounded director James Cameron about the ending for years as well. He told The Guardian back in 2012 that it added necessary drama to the ending. He defended his choice, saying, "Wait a minute. I'm going to call up William Shakespeare and ask why Romeo and Juliet had to die."
Winslet has been making her way through press circuits for her Oscar-nominated turn in Steve Jobs. This isn't the first time she's made comments involving her good friend, DiCaprio.
PEOPLE reported this week that Winslet and DiCaprio have remained good friends. She told the outlet, "He's a solid, loyal person. He's a great friend, he always has been, and not just to me, but to everyone around him. He still has friends he had when we made Titanic."
Jack and Rose forever!
