George Clooney, currently promoting his new film, Hail Caesar, is possibly the coolest man in Hollywood, so you'd think when it was time for him to make a marriage proposal, it would have been a piece of cake. However, in a recent interview with Ellen DeGeneres, the Oscar winner revealed that when he proposed to wife Amal Alamuddin, things got so awkward she made him wait half an hour!
Ever since the late 2014 Venice wedding between George and Amal, Mrs. Clooney, a human rights lawyer with an impressive track record all over the world, has also fascinated the press with her fashion sense and dominance of the red carpet. And for the past year and a half, her husband has been on the spotlight answering questions about their marriage. The star seems happy to dish on his wife pretty often.
According to People Magazine, the actor, screenwriter and filmmaker recently appeared on DeGeneres' show to talk about his latest project with the Coen brothers, so naturally he was asked about his marriage. During his visit to the talk show, the actor revealed a hilariously adorable story: how she had him waiting for a full half hour when he proposed.
As Entertainment Tonight recounts, Clooney had made a romantic dinner for the two of them, along with a fancy playlist to set up the mood ... and everything backfired on him! For one, Amal randomly got up to do the dishes (for the first time ever, it seems) and then he looked at the box with the ring in puzzlement, "as if somebody had left it there some other time."
"I'm doing all the moves you can do with my face. I got down on my knee and said, 'I couldn't imagine spending the rest of my life without you.' And she kept looking at the ring and she was looking at me and she was like, 'Oh My God,'" Clooney told DeGeneres, who was understandably laughing at the whole story. "And we now know, because there was a playlist [and] we know how long it actually took, it was like 25 minutes."
Of course, eventually she said yes and now they're one of the cutest couples in Hollywood -- but it's comforting to know relationships can be awkward even when you're George Clooney!
