Will they, won't they? That was one of the questions that the producers at Excel Entertainment had been dodging for a while. Now news is confirmed that superstar Shah Rukh Khan will be seen reprising his role of Don in Farhan Akhtar's Don 3.
After the success of Don, the official remake of Amitabh Bachchan-starrer film of the same name, Akhtar went on to direct its sequel Don 2: The Chase Begins and tasted success with it too. Both Khan and Akhtar then got busy with their own projects and a sequel to Don 2 was left in the backburner.
Now, after a gap of five years, Akhtar, who directed the Khan-starrer movie, is all set to write a script for the third installment of the film, which had become one of the highest grosser of 2011. The stylish film carried Don's story forward from the point part one had left.
Ritesh Sidhwani, who produced both the films along with Akhtar, reported to FilmiBeat that an idea has been generated for the third part of the movie and a story is being written for it. He also said that earlier they had been tossing ideas but not it is 100 percent confirmed that Don 3 would be made.
"Yes, we have an idea, and we are now going to put it into the scripting stage. We want to make Don 3; there's a 100% confirmation on that. So, we are surely thinking about it. And it's going to happen."
As soon as the news was out, rumors began doing the rounds that Katrina Kaif will be seen replacing Priyanka Chopra opposite Khan in the third part. It is only after an official statement is released that audiences will get to know who will be the leading lady in Don 3. While talking about the cast, Akhtar was quoted by Bollywood Life as responding:
"Don (SRK) will definitely be in it. Apart from that I don't know. It will depend on what characters are written."
Akhtar, whose last directorial venture was Don 2, was recently seen acting in Bejoy Nambiar's Wazir, while Khan has his Maneesh Sharma directed Fan and Rahul Dholakia helmed Raees, releasing this year in April and July respectively.
