There have been several speculations about a possible Wolverine cameo in the upcoming mutant flick X-Men: Apocalypse, but nobody has actually confirmed whether Hugh Jackman will be making yet another appearance as the adamantium-clawed antihero. Now, director Bryan Singer has confirmed that Weapon X will not be in the X-Men sequel. Or has he?

The Apocalypse director recently spoke to Empire magazine (via ComicBookMovie), where a scene from the film is described as being set in a possible Weapon X facility and involves William Stryker. The scene features Jennifer Lawrence's Mystique, Nicholas Hoult's Beast, Evan Peters' Quicksilver and Rose Byrne's Moira being held captive by Stryker, who demands information about Magneto's whereabouts.

The scene might seem like a tense situation for the mutants, but it also immediately sparked interest in a possible Wolverine appearance. After all, the character was last seen in X-Men: Days of Future Past as being taken away by Stryker. However, Singer was quick to point out that Wolverine will not be in this particular scenario.

"As a central character, he didn't fit into this particular story," he stated.

But what exactly did Singer mean? Was he simply trying to insinuate that Wolverine isn't in the same Weapon X facility, that he will not be part of the scene? If so, is there still a possibility that Jackman will have a cameo in a different scene in Apocalypse?

It certainly sounds like the director wants to imply that Wolverine isn't going to be a major character in the movie. Nevertheless, that hasn't stopped fans from still hoping that Jackman will pop up in Apocalypse anyway.

X-Men: Apocalypse will also star Oscar Isaac as the titular mutant who gathers the Four Horsemen, which are Michael Fassbender's Magneto, Alexandra Shipp's Storm, Olivia Munn's Psylocke and Ben Hardy as Archangel. The film drops into theaters on May 27.
