The release date of DreamWorks Animation's How to Train Your Dragon 3 has been confirmed for June 29, 2018, and from the recent updates, it looks like this will be the last part in the franchise. If the story is going to follow the novel that was written by Cressida Cowel, then there are chances that Hiccup and his pet dragon, Toothless, will part their ways at the end.
The How to Train Your Dragon franchise follows the adventures of a young Viking named Hiccup (voiced by Jay Baruchel), who is the son of Stoick the Vast (voiced by Gerard Butler), leader of the Viking island of Berk. The series starts showing Hiccup being a bit clumsy and underweight then going on to become a proper Viking. He becomes the talk of Berk when he befriends Toothless, a member of the rare Night Fury dragon breed.
Now, according to recent updates, How to Train Your Dragon 3 will be set exactly three years from the events of How to Train Your Dragon 2. Fans from around the world are wondering about the plot of the movie. If recent reports are to be believed, in the third part, viewers will see a full-fledged war between the Vikings and Dragons.
In an interview with the Collider, Dean Deblois, the director of first two parts, stated that How to Train Your Dragon 3 will focus on Hiccups' life as a mature Viking and how he handles the day-to-day problems in Berk. The 45-year-old Canadian director also stated that after the events shown in the second part, both Toothless and Hiccup have become the chiefs of their respective tribes. The problem will arise when Toothless and Hiccup will have to stand against each other for the greater good of their own tribes.
"We're gonna take the story to where the books begin, which is Hiccup as an adult reflecting back on a time where there were dragons, suggesting that the dragons will in some way go away. Why and could they come back and the mystery of what all that is will be saved for the actual story."
This can only mean one thing -- there are chances that two of our beloved characters will part ways at the end.
At the same time, if the upcoming movie follows the plot of the novel by Cowel, then there is also a probability that the film will show how the dragons became extinct.
