Doug Liman 'Gambit' Movie Delayed Again: Channing Tatum's 'X-Men' Spinoff Undergoing Rewrites

Following the footsteps of Marvel Studios, Fox is now trying to create its own superhero universe, but after last year's catastrophic failure Fantastic Four, it seems they want to take their time to do things right. Channing Tatum's X-Men spinoff, Gambit, has been delayed yet another time due to rewrites as director Doug Liman preps its upcoming mutant film.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the superhero movie is going through some heavy rewrites at the moment and, though it was scheduled to begin filming in the first quarter of 2016, it has been delayed again: it seems Tatum won't be playing the mutant until the end of this year.

In fact, Doug Liman, who Fox hired to direct the upcoming mutant film, even signed up for another project while the movie changes its form behind the scenes: the filmmaker is currently in talks to join Amazon Studio's psychological thriller The Wall in the director capacity.

As GameSpot reports, there have been too many things keeping the movie from happening. Last year, Rupert Wyatt, who had originally been hired to helm the film, walked out of the project. Also, not long ago, Fox released its schedules for upcoming releases and the Gambit movie, originally slated to reach cinemas in October, had disappeared from the list.

Though production has been delayed time and again, Fox seems to still be committed to making the film, though so far there are only two members of the cast: Léa Seydoux, who played last year's main Bond girl in Spectre, will also star as in a role rumored to be Bella Donna Boudreaux.

As previously mentioned, Fox is planning to expand its Marvel properties to create a new franchise with different movies. Earlier this year, the studio released Deadpool starring Ryan Reynolds, a movie that not only critics loved, but it also broke the record to become the highest grossing R-Rated film in history.
