Scandal Season Finale Guest Appearance Revealed: Angela Bassett Takes on OPA

Scandal creators always know how to deliver the shock factor when it comes to the hit series. After watching President Fitz's attempted assassination, Olivia's kidnapping, Huck's hidden family and Jake's crazy past, we thought we've seen it all. Apparently Shonda Rhimes is living up to her name and bringing in Angela Bassett for an epic season finale.

Bassett is a well-established actress who has recently captivated audiences again in American Horror Story. While the creators are still remaining tight-lipped on what her role will entail we know that the season will be going out with a bang.

Last Friday Kerry Washington had fans in a frenzy when she shared a photo of Bassett on the drama set. While the actress didn't give any details to her role, the stars of the hit series were too busy basking in the Oscar-nominated actress' glory.

"Final #fraturday of the season," Washington captioned the photo. "#ScandalFam basking in the glow of the one and only Angela Bassett.

Insiders reveal that Bassett was not in the Olivia Pope & Associates offices filming a guest appearance. According to a TVLine source, the actress was "shadowing co-executive producer Tom Verica" as he directed the season 5 finale.

By the looks of it not only will Bassett be guest starring on the season finale but she may also be gaining a production credit for the episode. We all love surprises but it's safe to say that we can't wait until the season finale. Maybe the actress may be setting her foundation to appear in the series for season 6? We can only dream.

Scandal's Season 5 finale, titled "That's My Girl," will air on May 12 at 9/8c on ABC.
