Renée Elise Goldsberry very recently earned her first-ever Tony Award for originating the role of Angelica Schuyler Church in the mega smash Hamilton musical, but she's not throwing away her shot beyond Broadway: she's joining the cast of the upcoming Netflix cyberpunk series Altered Carbon!

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the "Schuyler Sister" will be leaving the Broadway production at some point this fall, as she's trading her 18th century corsets for a much more modern role. For her next role on the Netflix sci-fi show, she'll be taking the role of master strategist Quellcrist Falconer, and she'll be starring opposite Suicide Squad actor Joel Kinnaman.

Altered Carbon will be based on a 2002 hardboiled cyberpunk/sci-fi novel by Richard K. Morgan. The series, which already got a one-season order at Netflix, will be set hundreds of years into the future, in a dystopian universe where humankind has transcended the limitations of the physical body, and people can digitally download their memories and personalities into "resleeved" versions.

Goldsberry had made no official announcement regarding her departure from Hamilton, but Playbill later confirmed that the original report was accurate. Goldsberry was the second original cast member who announced she was leaving the show last Wednesday: Daveed Diggs, who originated the roles of the Marquis de Lafayette and Thomas Jefferson, told the world he was dropping a few hours before his co-star.

While it was Hamilton that brought her the Tony Award and broader recognition, Goldsberry has been involved in show business for years, and her résumé extends to appearances in shows as varied as Ally McBeal and Masters of Sex, and she was also the last person to play the role of Mimi Marquez on Broadway's Rent.

With the big success Hamilton has brought its original cast members, many of them have announced their departures to pursue other projects, in Broadway and elsewhere. Show creator and original Alexander Hamilton actor Lin-Manuel Miranda has his eye set on Hollywood now that he's left the production, as he's set to write a few songs for the upcoming Disney princess film Moana, and he'll also star in the Mary Poppins sequel with Emily Blunt.

Leslie Odom Jr., who won a Tony for originating the role of Hamilton's friend and rival Aaron Burr, also stepped down recently to focus on his musical career, as he recently released an album. Phillipa Soo, who received a Tony nod for playing Eliza Schuyler Hamilton, will be heading the Broadway production of the Amélie musical soon.
