During the Coachella Festival on Sunday, British dub genius and Wu Tang Clan alumnus, The RZA, performed their collaboration "Take a Fall for Me." This track off of Blake's sophomore album Overgrown is a desperate love song, which is brought together by The RZA's rap style through heart wrenching lyrics. Sunday's concert was the debut performance of the collaboration. The RZA even had to use the assistance of a lyric sheet, but that did not stop him from rapping to a "pretty girl."
As Blake starts the first chords of the song, The RZA is heard over a microphone, asking to come out on stage to perform. The two exchange a greeting as the rapper heads over to the center of the stage. Before he starts, however, he asks for a "pretty girl" to come out on stage with him. He talks a bit to the young lady, making her a part of the show. She slowly starts to move to the dub music and The RZA starts his rap.
Yes, he has to read some of the lyrics off of a lyric sheet on a music stand. He eventually finds the flow and ventures away from stand to rap the painful lyrics to the girl. This was of course the debut performance of the song, so it was understandable to have some assistance.
Just so you know what is being said during this song, here is an example of some of the lyrics being rapped by The RZA:
"I heard through the grapevine that great love, it takes time
Sex shapes the body, truth shapes the mind
Candle light dinners, fish and chips with the vinegar
With a glass of cold stout, old wine or something similar
Swam the English channel to the Italian peninsula
Her strong pheromones with cologne in hand to stick to her
But she asked for romance, I'm deep into her
Won't let her fall, always remember us
Don't marry him, no no no no no, don't marry him
Don't marry him, don't carry him to paradise"
