"Goonies" is a beloved 1980's adventure film with a cult following. The film is so beloved that there have been talks of having a sequel for it despite having decades gone by. However, a cast member of the original film revealed that there may never have a sequel.
Original "Goonies" Director Too Old
The director of the original movie, Richard Donner, may not be able to come back to direct "The Goonies 2." Donner is currently 87 years old and according to Den of Geek, hasn't directed any movie since 2006.
There have been talks of the sequel happening a few years ago when Donner revealed that he and Steven Spielberg were considering working together for "Goonies 2." Chris Columbus who was the screenwriter of the "Goonies" movie was also mentioned in the would-be project.

Original "Goonies" Cast Member Reveals Doubt About Sequel
Martha Plimpton who played Stephanie Steinbrenner in the "Goonies" did a Reddit AMA for her new show "The Real O'Neals" for ABC. While answering questions, the subject of "Goonies 2" and she revealed her doubts about the movie as it has been "teased for decades."
Plimpton added that while Donner would always be qualified to direct the "Goonies 2," it may never happen. Apart from the sequel having no material after years of rumors of it being in the pipelines, the original director may have been pulling their legs to exact revenge for being pranked for 6 months by the main cast of "Goonies" in 1984.
Corey Feldman, another "Goonies" co-star also stated in July this year that "Goonies 2" may never happen because of Donner's age. However, if the project were to be turned over to somebody else, it is unlikely for the original cast to come together for the sequel.
