Drake clearly bags the title of the "Most Streamed Artist" as Spotify recently released its annual list of the most popular artists, albums and tracks before the end of 2016. He even earned a Tim Cook-signed celebratory plaque.
The Verge reported that it was Drake who had earned 4.7 billion streams. His album "Views" hit one billion streams on Apple Music which made him a Tim Cook-signed celebratory plaque.
Spotify's chief content and strategy officer commented on Drake's achievements. "Drake has been unstoppable this year- he's a true global superstar," Stefan Blom said, according to Venture Beat.
Blom further stated, "With the top album and the top song this year, as well as his successful Summer Sixteen tour, Drake continues to engage his fans in a way that only Drake can; it's no surprise that he is dominating the music industry."
Drake's album, "Views" ws the most-streamed album of the year, based on records of Spotify. The said album had earned more than 2.45 million streams.
Additionally, Drake was also announced as the most listened to artist on Pandora in most US states. His most-streamed track "One Dance" together with WizKid and Kyla, became to be the most popular breakup song or 2016.
And even though Drake is promoting Apple Music, the rival of Spotify ever since, his success in Spotify was very notable. For the record, Spotify has more than 100 million monthly active users and more than 40 million paying subscribers.
Aside from Drake, Rihanna dominated the most-streamed female category. She beats Ariana Grande, Adele, Sia, And Fifth Harmony. Also, Zayn Malik, the former band member of One Direction, was named as Spotify's breakout artist for the year.
Currently, Drake is working with Kanye West for "Watch the Throne" version. Despite of so many controversies Drake had in his love life, being named as the "Most Streamed Artist" on Spotify is such a reward for him.
