New set of leaked photos for HTC's smartwatch dubbed "Halfbeak" has resurfaced once again after it was first leaked in October 2016.
The leaked images show exactly the same design to the photos that were leaked last year, Android Authority reported. The leaked photo shows two dedicated buttons to the right of the smartwatch, a circular watch face with Under Armor logo in the back, as well as pogo pins, a heart-rate sensor, and rubber wrist straps. Also, like in the previously leaked photos, the codename "Halfbeak" is running a version of Android Wear and Google Play Services from 2015. The smartwatch also seems to sport a 360 x 360 screen resolution. You can check the leaked photos on Weibo.
HTC CEO Peter Chou told CNET in 2015 that the company was being very careful with their efforts towards the smartwatch market. "We try to be very careful instead of just putting out whatever, so we keep working on it." With this, it is clear that HTC doesn't want to be just "another" smartwatch in the market, Ubergizmo reported.
But HTC isn't the only tech company to take it slow regarding the production of smartwatches. Last year, several key Android Wear original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) decided not to release new smartwatches for 2016. Motorola seems to be taking a break from smartwatches for the conceivable future.
With the leaked photos, we could actually say that HTC's partnership with Under Armor hasn't really changed ever since the Health Box was unveiled during the CES 2016. And with the expectations raised by the likes of Polar, Nixon, Apple, and Garmin, we sure do hope HTC won't screw this up. After all, the company's name is at stake.
Assuming that the photos are authentic, we might finally see the dubbed "Halfbeak" unveiled during MWC 2017 next month.
