"House of Cards" Season 5 release date confirmed on Twitter

On Jan. 20, the "House of Cards" official Twitter account revealed that the show will be back with its fifth season on May 30. That's still a few months to go, but the "House of Cards" Season 5 trailer was enough of an announcement that people will remember until May rolls in this year.

The Twitter post revealed a short trailer featuring a recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance against a dark background and ominous music. The video is captioned with "We make the terror". Fans will remember that the line came from Kevin Spacey's character, President Frank Underwood. He had said during the last season, "We don't submit to terror. We make the terror."

The Underwoods will bring terror on TV in "House of Cards" Season 5

Aside from that memorable and chilling line, it was the first time that Robin Wright, who play's Frank's wife, Clara, broke the fourth wall. That certainly shocked some viewers who didn't see it coming. According to Variety, "House of Cards" Season 5 is finally going to show some serious problems in their marriage.

During Season 4 of the political suspense show, the Underwoods tried to control a hostage situation and use it as leverage for the elections. They got the terrorists to release the little girl and her mother. Unfortunately, The Washington Post published the article written by Hammerschmidt (Boris McGiver). It highlighted Frank's dirty dealings and implicated former president Walker (Michel Gill), Remy (Mahershala Ali), and Jackie (Molly Parker).

The two went into hiding, and Frank gave a speech about solidarity. The situation didn't end well when the hostage-takers live-streams the death of one of their hostages. The fourth season received a lot of praise. In fact, the "House the Cards" series was nominated 13 times for the 2016 Primetime Emmy Awards.

In its 2017 return, new faces Patricia Clarkson and Campbell Scott will join the "House of Cards" Season 5 cast, according to E! News. Creator Beau Willimon stepped down from running the show after Season 4, so Melissa James Gibson and Frank Pugliese will take his place for the TV series' fifth run. In case you missed it, here's that creepy trailer.
