The Season 1 Finale of "Timeless" garnered more than a million views, which gives hope for the show's renewal. Likewise, series creator Shawn Ryan is optimistic that Season 2 will happen and he revealed his plans for the installment.
"Timeless" received its highest views by far on Monday's episode. According to TV Line, the Season 1 Finale gained 3.37 million views. It increased the show's rating to 0.9 and by ten percent from its previous episodes.
The increased in viewership certainly points to a good sign for a renewal. NBC has yet to give the green light for "Timeless" Season 2, although Ryan has come prepared. In a recent interview, he revealed his intention to pitch the sequel to NBC come April. Ryan and co-creator Eric Kripke are optimistic that the network will approve their storyline for the installment.
"We are working on our overall plan for Season 2 right now and we'll pitch it to NBC in April. What I can say is the current plan involves our heroes traveling to the past to stop history from being perverted and changed too much," Ryan told Deadline.
In the same interview, Ryan discussed the cliffhanger in the Season 1 Finale. He expressed his hope for "Timeless" Season 2 to happen so they can address those questions in the last episode. He admitted that they ended Season 1 with several unanswered questions, so they can expound on them in the installment.
To recap, the finale revealed that Lucy's mom has been a member of Rittenhouse all along. Ryan said "Timeless" Season 2 will answer why she was not immediately identified as a member of the organization. Likewise, the installment will explore Jiya's newfound skill. It turns out that she can time see different points in time from the same place.
Of course, "Timeless" Season 2 will reveal Flynn's fate in prison and answer whether Lucy will get her sister back. There are several stories needed to be told in the installment. This is why Ryan is keeping his fingers crossed, that the 3.37 million views from the Season 1 Finale will convince NBC to renew the show.
