"Doctor Who" will air its Season 10 this April 15 and it will be the last run for main actor Peter Capaldi. There has been speculation that David Tennant will reprise his role as the titular Time Lord, but the actor said that his "Broadchurch" co-star Olivia Colman will be the better choice.
David Tennant played the titular character in "Doctor Who" from 2005 to 2010. Since then, there have been numerous regenerations. The current one is played by Peter Capaldi from Season 8 to the upcoming Season 10. The 58-year-old actor said he would be moving on to other projects after Season 10. This prompted many fans to wonder whether David Tennant will reprise his role for Season 11.
Tennant appeared on the talk show "This Morning" and dismissed the rumors that he will be back in "Doctor Who". According to The Sun, he will not reprise his iconic role. "I don't think it works that way, I don't think you get a second chance," he said. When the talk show hosts asked him whether his co-star Olivia Colman is being considered as the next Doctor, Tennant merely said that anything was possible.
This was different from what Tennant said during Radio 4's "The World at One". According to the Telegraph, he said that Olivia Colman would make a great Doctor and could certainly replace Capaldi after the latter leaves "Doctor Who". Tennant and Colman are co-stars on the British show "Broadchurch", which is created and penned by Chris Chibnall.
It's interesting to know that Chibnall will actually be leaving "Broadchurch" to run "Doctor Who" in 2018 after producer Steve Moffat leaves the sci-fi TV series. Tennant had also said that Chibnall is the perfect person to handle "Doctor Who". If Colman does become the next Doctor, she will be the first female to take on the role (aside from Joanna Lumley who starred as the Doctor for a Red Nose Day video).
