When the original "Prison Break" series ended, fans thought they saw the last of the brilliant Michael Scoffield (Wentworth Miller). After eight years, the series is back with "Prison Break" Season 5, and this time, it will be Miller's character that needs saving, except that he is now a known terrorist with a different name. In fact, the show's creator teased that it might be a different person altogether.
Recently, FOX released a "Prison Break" Season 5 poster on social media. The most telling sign that this season would be different from the previous seasons is the tagline: "First, it was a prison. Now, it's a nation." This hints that the upcoming season is going to be bigger in scope. In fact, past trailers revealed that the gang will have to break out Michael Scoffield from a prison in Yemen.
Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell, who plays Miller's brother on the show, met each other again during their scenes in "The Flash". The two started talking about a "Prison Break" revival and when they went to FOX Entertainment, the studio gave it the go signal when they promised that the stakes will be higher in "Prison Break" Season 5, according to iDigitalTimes.
The "Prison Break" Season 5 trailer revealed that Michael's identity in Yemen is Kaniel Outis, who is wanted for killing a CIA agent, bombings, and ISIL affiliation. He is also a known terrorist. Michael also has new tattoos. On the palm of one hand is what seems like the Eye of Horus. Miller himself hinted that the tattoos have something to do with his ISIL initiation.
The revival is only nine episodes, but Miller said that it has potential to be longer. He also told Digital Spy that fans will love the new twist in "Prison Break" Season 5. The 44-year-old actor hinted that the new series will take place seven years after the events of Season 4. What will keep fans on edge is learning how and why Michael faked his death in the first place.
Series creator Paul T. Scheuring will be back to handle "Prison Break" Season 5, but he has already been teasing fans with the show's various twists. He hinted that Lincoln (Purcell) might die in the revival. He also said that Michael is already dead and that Wentworth Miller might be playing some other guy. "Prison Break" has always been a show where things are never what they seem, so fans should stay on their toes.
Hard-core fans will also love the fact that the "Prison Break" Season 5 cast will largely be the same. Dominic Purcell will still be Lincoln Burrows. Sarah Wayne Callies will return as Sara Tancredi. Robert Knepper will be back as T-Bag and Amaury Nolasco will reprise his role as Fernando Sucre, one of Michael's closest allies. The show was slated to air in January, but will be delayed to April 4, 2017.
