O.J. Simpson has waited 9 years in prison for a chance at parole and 2017 is going to be the year he becomes a free man, with, of course, conditions applied. But has the Oscar-winning documentary on his life brought to light certain incriminating facts that could harm his chances of parole?

13 years after O.J. Simpson was acquitted in the "trial of a century" for the murder of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown and Ronald Goldman, he was arrested and found guilty on 12 counts, including robbery, kidnapping, and assault with a deadly weapon. He was sentenced to 33 years in jail in 2008, eligible for parole in 9 years.

Simpson's parole hearing is set for July and the Nevada parole board will most likely have a decision by the beginning of October this year, reports CNN. To successfully sway the decision his way, Simpson has to win over 4 of the 7 commissioners on the parole board.

However, according to Las Vegas criminal defense attorney, Daniel Hill, this is not a tough ask. "He's the kind of person who gets paroled. He has done a significant amount of time and, by all accounts, hasn't caused any problems," he mentions. But what of the external influences that could spell disaster for Simpson's future?

O.J. Simpson's life has been upheld in films, TV shows, and documentaries so many times over the past years that American people are probably familiar with every nook and cranny of his personality more vividly than he is. Everyone is familiar with the 10-episode FX drama called "The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story" that focused on Simpson's murder trial and the parade of celebrities involved in it, reports Pacific Tribune.

The most recent one is ESPN's Oscar-winning documentary "O.J. Made In America" on Simpson's life as an African-American. The 8-hour long presentation could potentially harm Simpson's chances of getting a parole. The last thing he needs is for the members of the parole board to be reminded of the scandal he got entangled in, in his early years.

Will O.J. Simpson be able to get paroled this year? Or will popular media act as a detriment to his freedom?
