This sparked rumors that the two might have started dating again, which would not be surprising as Bieber has maintained many on-again-off-again relationships with women in the past. The controversial comment also revived the wrath of Beliebers, who loathed Richie, to begin with. After Bieber's comment, Richie's Instagram page was filled by snake emojis by fans, who still believe that the "Sorry" singer belongs with no one but Selena Gomez.

Still, Richie tweeted out the message, "Hi, I miss you" hours after Bieber's surprise comment. Even though she did not tag anyone on her tweet, could it have been for her ex-boyfriend, Bieber?
