"Persona 5" one of the most popular games today has hit the market with over one million copies. Atlus announced that they are shipping numerous units of this title worldwide.
"Since launching last year [in Japan] on September 15th [2016], customers have graciously found Persona 5 to be favorable. Launching April 4th [2017] in North America and Europe has also resulted in happy days [for the company], with the worldwide shipping numbers totaling 1.5 million copies," Atlus announced on its official website Persona Channel.
According to Gematsu, 550,000 of the "Persona 5" sales came from Japan alone. Meanwhile, the count for Europe and North America only includes the PS4 version. However, the overall figure includes the PS3 and PS4 versions.
One should take note that the total figure was the number of "Persona 5" that has been shipped, it does not necessarily mean that it equates the total sells as well. In most cases, developers and producers ship a lot of games to retailers, but it doesn't always equate to sell-through.
Most of the time, the shipment is based on pre-orders and typical pre-release demands. Atlus' decision to move additional copies of "Persona 5" in North America and Europe hints that they are expecting high demands in those continents.
Atlus move of releasing millions of copies of "Persona 5" is a positive indication that the title is doing well because the figure is triple the units released for "Persona 4." This is as long as they keep the development cost and marketing budget in check.
In another news, Atlus warns clients not to stream or post videos of "Persona 5" online. Leaking too much information about the game may prompt Atlus to take actions like content ID claim, do a channel strike or suspend an account.
