Microsoft Xbox One might finally get a successor soon as the details of the next generation gaming console have been leaked. The next gaming console is codenamed as Project Scorpio, and as per the reports, Microsoft has revealed the details that will make into the generation console.
Project Scorpio was first announced at E3 2016, wherein the console is expected to deliver true 4K gaming experience and high-quality virtual reality experience. Microsoft did not make any official comment on the VR capabilities of the console, but the company is said to be working with Oculus that designs high-quality VR headsets.
Microsoft's Project Scorpio console is expected to feature an eight-core CPU, 6 TFLOPS of GPU compute power and 320GB/s of memory bandwidth, ARS Technica reported. The console looks exactly the same as the Xbox One S and this will enable the users to swap the new system easily.
Microsoft Project Scorpio will be powerful enough to handle the complex workloads. There will be no need of an extra processor unlike what is required by the PlayStation 4. The upcoming Microsoft box includes two HDMI ports - one for the TV and one for the VR headset, reported Eurogamer.
The core of the new console is called Scorpio Engine, which is the new SOC developed in partnership with AMD. Project Scorpio GPU will be paired with 12GB GDDR5 RAM and will be housed in a compact body. Microsoft is working on state of the art cooling setup for its upcoming console.
Microsoft also gave a demo of "Forza Motorsport" running on Project Scorpio hardware. The Scorpio performed substantially well and hit 60 fps on a 4K screen. At these settings, the GPU utilization was at 66 percent, which means that there is still room for improving the visual quality. It also gives an idea of how powerful the GPU on Xbox Scorpio will be.
