Creed’s Scott Stapp Says Ghost of Scott Weiland Helped Him Stay Sober

Scott Stapp recalled a divine intervention with the ghost of Scott Weiland in a recent magazine interview. The former Creed frontman said that the deceased Stone Temple Pilots singer encouraged him to stay sober.

Stapp talked about his road to recovery from drug and alcohol addiction in an interview with GQ. It is when he brought up his supernatural encounter with Weiland. The singer said that it happened at the time when he rented the same tour bus where Weiland died of an accidental overdose in 2015.

Stapp said he was in the bathroom of the bus and looking in the mirror when he felt Weiland's presence. He said that at that time he could hear or feel the deceased singer speaking to him. Weiland reportedly reminded him to stay sober or else he could wind up dead too. "I could hear or feel him saying, 'Dude, this could have been you and this could be you if you continue that path," Stapp said.

The 43-year old described it as a "crazy, mystical experience." However, he clarified that he did not or does not see Weiland's ghost. Regardless, the experience definitely left an impression on Stapp. He took it as an encouragement to stay sober. According to NME, it pushed the singer to continue with his recovery. "It was just one of those weird things that kinda, like, the stars aligned, the universe arranged itself at the right time to further impact me and further solidify my commitment to my recovery," Stapp added in his interview.

Stapp has had his own struggles with substance abuse in the past, but he has reportedly been sober for two years already. Likewise, he has since gotten back on his feet and has gone back to singing. Stapp is now the lead singer of Weiland's former band, the Art of Anarchy.
