Nintendo NES Classic Edition Discontinued; Might Be A Restock On The Way For Holiday Period

Nintendo shook the gaming industry with a sad news that disappointed most of its fans. The Japanese company announced that it is discontinuing the widely popular NES Classic Edition.

The announcement if discontinuing NES Classic Edition comes straight from Nintendo which further puts any rumors or allegations to rest. The company has decided that the gaming console will not be sold anymore in North America as of now but other regions might follow soon, Forbes reported.

The retro-styled NES Classic Edition was one of the best selling consoles of the company and was also a great gift option for the holiday season. The gaming device was made available on November 11 last year and since then it was very difficult to find it probably because of the less supply from Nintendo.

Nintendo NES Classic Edition was so popular that it was being sold for more than double the retail price on eBay initially. However, the price of the device came down recently averaging around $100 on the auction site, Wired reported.

During the shortage of Nintendo NES Classic Edition, Nintendo said "the Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition system is a hot item, and we are working hard to keep up with consumer demand. There will be a steady flow of additional systems through the holiday shopping season and into the new year."

The decision to halt the supply of Nintendo NES Classic Edition is perplexing as the demand was able to meet the supply just now and now Nintendo announced that the system will no longer be sold. This has disheartened many fans and there are jokes with tagline "Nintendo Hates Money" all over the internet.

Nintendo's announcement is confusing as the company was making a huge profit from NES Classic Edition and it was one of the best selling gaming devices from the company. The reason for the discontinuation is not clear but rumors suggest that the console was hurting sales of the new Nintendo Switch or it may be possible that Nintendo is re-stocking for a grand relaunch for the holiday season.
